The position:
A rich and varied upcoming work portfolio means that we can offer an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our growing Heritage Management Service (HMS). As a Consultant (at OA Project Officer level) within HMS you would work with a team of experienced historic environment professionals to provide specialist advice and consultancy services (including desk-based assessments, heritage statements, condition and management surveys, Local Plan enquires and environmental impact assessments) for a varied range of projects. In addition, you would have the opportunity to develop your existing skillsets by working the many of the exciting research projects we carry out every year! While the role would be based in our Oxford Office, we carry out work across the UK and there may also be opportunities to work on consultancy/research projects abroad!

We are looking for an experienced Archaeologist who:
- Has a thorough knowledge and understanding of British archaeology including the range of procedures, practices and processes carried out as part of both on-and off-site investigations.
- Shows a good understanding of commercial archaeology in the UK and the legislation relevant to it, as well as the needs and priorities of commercial clients.
- Has experience producing archaeological desk-based assessments and/or heritage statements from conception to report production.
- Can characterise and assess the archaeological and historic landscape resource and make recommendations for mitigation strategies ahead of development.
- Is a free thinker able to apply relevant knowledge outside the box.
- Enjoys the challenge of research projects and developing relevant methodologies.
- Has the ability to conduct general academic research on relevant subjects.
- Is a good communicator and has experience in liaising with both clients and curators.
- Can demonstrate proven writing and editing ability.
- Can demonstrate good IT skills.
Preferably you would also have:
- Experience undertaking environmental impact assessments.
- The ability to use GIS and/or CAD.
- Experience of setting assessment.
- A full clean driving licence.
Additional experience in the heritage field would also be considered an advantage e.g., in historic landscapes, community engagement, conservation management plans, heritage tourism, audits and characterisation projects.
Applicants should be members, or eligible for membership, of the CIfA preferably at the ACIfA or MCIfA level.
