An opportunity has arisen within our busy Finds Department at OA East, based in Bar Hill, Cambridge for a Finds Project Officer. This post is offered as either a full-time or part-time role and will be office-based.
We are seeking an individual who can demonstrate experience and familiarity in dealing with all finds types throughout the entire post-excavation process, culminating in archive deposition. They will also have a specialism in one or more categories of material, ideally including Romano-British pottery but those with other specialisms may also be considered. The successful candidate will be able work closely with colleagues in other parts of the organisation and externally to facilitate the production of archaeological reports and publications and to enable efficient and prompt archive deposition. There will be a requirement to supervise and train staff undertaking finds work, as necessary.

Position Requirements:
Essential
- Proven ability in ensuring the successful delivery of finds administration, including the quantification, cataloguing, processing, and packaging of artefacts and ecofacts.
- Good organisational skills to assist in the co-ordination of the day-to-day operations in the Finds Dept., including contributing to the monitoring of the finds programme to ensure that projects run on schedule and within budget.
- An understanding of finds curation, conservation and investigation techniques.
- Post-excavation experience, including analysis and report writing in one or more finds specialisms within set deadlines and budgets. Reports may include documents for clients, articles for professional journals and monographs.
- The ability to monitor and assess performance of teams and individuals and provide feedback, guidance and training where appropriate to relevant staff and volunteers.
- Ability to communicate and liaise appropriately with colleagues, specialists (internal and external), curators and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, as appropriate.
- Good communication skills with fluent spoken and written English.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of British archaeology and related practices.
- A minimum of 1 years’ experience in professional archaeological fieldwork within the UK commercial environment will be highly advantageous as will a degree in archaeology, archaeological science or related discipline.
- Ability to carry out work practices in accordance with health and safety requirements.
- Competent user of an appropriate range of IT packages including database, GIS and presentation software, report templates and spreadsheet

- Ability to drive.
