The Position:
An opportunity has arisen at Oxford Archaeology East to work in our Archives team. We are seeking an experienced Archives Assistant Supervisor to join the highly successful and respected Post-Excavation Team in our Cambridge office. The successful candidate will contribute to a range of archaeological and cultural heritage investigations and projects.
This post is offered as either a full-time or part-time role. A mixture of home and office-based working is also possible, depending on circumstances, initially for a 6 month period as maternity cover.
The role will encompass varied responsibilities, the key aspects of which are:
- To contribute to archaeological investigations by processing and supervising the processing of material and data, in preparation for archive deposition;
- To provide expert guidance to Archaeologists, volunteers and Work Experience Students, as well as providing support and guidance to new staff members where appropriate.
Position Requirements
Essential:
- Experience in preparing archaeological archives for deposition and familiarity with related processes and procedures including the ability to mark and administering relevant finds assemblages prior to deposition.
- Ability to record data accurately, to store it securely and appropriately in the required format, including relevant computer skills.
- Ability to lift, handle, store and transfer archival material with care and safety, so as to protect it appropriately.
- Ability to work as part of a team and to meet deadlines.
- The ability to operate with regard to health and safety legislation and any related policies and procedures.
- Excellent written English.
- Thorough knowledge of British archaeology.
- A degree (or equivalent experience) in archaeology, archaeological science or related discipline.
Desirable:
- The ability to drive.
- Applicants should be members, or eligible for membership, of the CIfA, at the PCIfA level.
